What makes a repeat fail
Repeats fail at the edges and at scale. A join that looks clean at 100% becomes a stripe across a bolt of fabric; a motif spaced correctly for a scarf reads as a grid on a dress. Neither is visible while you are looking at one tile.
Checking the repeat as it will actually be cut, tiled, at production scale and on the pattern piece, is the step that catches both.
Half-drop, brick, straight
Which repeat structure to use is a design decision with production consequences. A straight repeat is simplest and shows regularity most; a half-drop hides it. The right choice depends on the motif, the cloth and the garment, and it is easier to judge by seeing all three than by reasoning about them.
From repeat to specification
A finished repeat still needs a specification: scale, orientation, colour separations and placement rules. Artifax carries these into the tech pack automatically, in the format vendors already use, so the repeat is produced as designed.
